Sarah Champagne wins the Grand Prix Judith-Jasmin for the documentary Essential and her series of articles on temporary immigrants

The documentary Essential, along with journalist Sarah Champagne’s series of articles on temporary immigration published in Le Devoir, won the Grand Prix Judith-Jasmin 2022 last Saturday at a gala held at the congress of the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec. This is one of the most prestigious journalism awards in Quebec. Produced by Picbois Productions and directed by Ky Vy Le Duc, the film is an original idea of Sonia Djelidi, who also contributed to the research.

“The social impact of such journalistic work in Quebec society, where the difficulties associated with immigration are posed in a very particular, acute and worrying way and affect a very large number of people.”

Sarah Champagne also won the Judith-Jasmin award in the “Politics and social issues” category.

Since the documentary was broadcast on Télé-Québec last January, over 30 screenings and events have taken place across Quebec.

The film is also a finalist for the Prix Droits et Libertés, to be awarded by the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse at a gala on December 13. The documentary has earned a place among the three finalists, all of which are initiatives that are making a difference in the reception, inclusion and integration of immigrants.
