James Bay 1975: TV Premiere on HISTORIA and World Premiere at CINEMANIA

As the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA) marks its 50th anniversary on November 11, Historia will present James Bay 1975: The Shock of Two Nations on Saturday, November 15, at 9 p.m. Written and directed by Myriam Berthelet, Mathieu Fournier, and Mélanie Lameboy, this 96-minute documentary from Picbois Productions and Rezolution Pictures offers a unique perspective on a story we thought we knew, through the eyes of those who lived it. It will also be screened at the CINEMANIA Film Festival on November 14, during a red carpet event attended by the film crew.
James Bay 1975: The Shock of Two Nations takes us back to the origins of two major revolutions: the rapid expansion of Hydro-Québec with the construction of the La Grande complex, and the awakening of the Indigenous nations of Northern Quebec. A clash of civilizations where two worldviews collide. Quebec dreams of taking control of its destiny by becoming an energy giant on the continent. Meanwhile, in the North, a new generation of young Cree and Inuit rise up to protect what they hold most dear: their land and their culture. Leaders and witnesses share their stories in this political thriller, which culminates in the signing of the James Bay Agreement in 1975.
